YAĞMUR DOĞAN
She was born in Istanbul in 1994. She graduated from Yeditepe University Plastic Arts and Art Management departments with honors in 2017-2019. Currently, she is continuing her thesis in the field of "Feminist Art" at Yeditepe University Social Sciences Institute Plastic Arts and Painting Master's Program. In her paintings; Based on self and identity problems, she examines the complex self-states behind people's faces. With reference to Erving Goffman's self-presentation, it makes a connection with individuals exhibiting different self-states in different situations.
Goffman; he treats the world we live in as a theater stage and people as actors playing multiple roles. He mentions that our self is shaped according to the individuals we encounter in our daily lives. He explains, using the concept of self, how a person or an individual reconsiders himself when he encounters others, how he presents himself in a new way and how he realizes new strategies for this purpose. The different self-performances that each individual presents to people push people to question their self-concept. We get to know each other in these performances and we introduce ourselves in these performances. If we have a constantly changing self, an idea of identity emerges that we constantly redefine. The individual constantly wanders between the different selves he constructs. If we identify people through the self they reflect; the complex self-structure can be seen as a disidentification.
The fluid and changing state of the portraits seen in Yağmur Doğan's paintings is linked to our ever-changing self-presentation. While the portrait silhouettes captured in her works create disidentification, it can be explained by the fact that the face represents the image of the self presented by the individual. Her paintings create moments of insight into one's ever-changing, complex self.
