SOHEYL BASTAMI
Soheyl is an interdisciplinary artist based in Toronto. Born in Iran in 1987, he has a Graphic Design diploma. He had an interest in sculptures from the beginning, and in 2009 he finally taught himself how to create sculptures from wood and metal. Many of his sculptures are figurative, where he focuses on works that show people in their elemental forms, seeking knowledge about the world and themselves. After many group exhibitions in Iran, he opened his first solo exhibition in Tehran (E1 Art Gallery) in 2016. He participated in various international symposiums and group exhibitions around the world and collected various awards for his sculptures. Some of his statues were installed in a number of cities in Iran, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland, Italy and the Czech Republic, where the public can still visit them. With all his exhibitions, he has collected many prestigious awards, such as second place at the International Contemporary Sculpture (Padideh) 2014 in Iran, special award at the International Wooden Sculpture Symposium (Castello Tesino) 2017 in Italy, and Biafarin award. First place at NordArt 2017 and the 2018 International Wooden Sculpture Symposium in the Czech Republic, to name a few.
