SÉBASTIEN SHAHMIRI

He is a French artist. He produces works on the life cycle of thoughts and organic and non-linear processes. As he cuts, tears, re-arranges and pastes, he thinks about how each new generation collectively destroys some elements of the past and shapes them into new ideas in the future. Since the thoughts are based on the surface of the paper, the subject of his works has a temporary (ephemeral) and volatile structure.

After his art education at Beaux-Art de Paris and then at Wimbledon School of Art (London), he began living and working in Paris. He settled in Frankfurt in 1985 and founded his advertising agency and continued his work until 2000. In 2000, he went to London and started teaching graduate students in the Journalism program at Harlow College – Middlesex University. He settled in Istanbul in 2010 and focused more on his art, while also starting to give courses in design at Bilgi University. He opened two personal exhibitions in Paris in the 1980s, and after settling in Istanbul, he took part in personal and group exhibitions in various galleries and platforms.
