NİLÜFER TOPAL
Born in Istanbul in 1982, she graduated from Marmara University with a degree in Art Education in 2004. In 2007, she completed her master's degree at the same university. The artist, who continues her work in Istanbul, also works as an art educator. In her figurative paintings, she deals with themes such as space details, human portraits, and anonymity. In her latest works, there is a symbolic approach. She seeks ways to integrate with collective memory by communicating with symbols related to nature and human nature.
"In the series that emerged as 'Realm of Dreams,' my aim was to create images for the viewer to connect with by uncovering the layers within their own experience and world, rather than seeing them clearly in daylight. Even the smallest thing sent to the depths of the unconscious, whose nature is unknown, has the potential to disturb us and keep us awake. The way to find out what and why something is disturbing lies in facing the things we hide and don't want to see, the things we fear and run away from. The things we have forgotten and buried deep to protect ourselves and cope with events in the past start to become burdensome when they lose their function. Perhaps, like Uranus did to the Hecatoncheires and Cyclopes he disliked and did not want to see, we need to look at what the monsters we have thrown into the depths of Tartarus have to say in the light of the full moon."
