MUSTAFA ÖZBAKIR
Mustafa Özbakır (b. 1982, Adana) focuses on the relationship between painting, photography, and cinema in his work, particularly concentrating on the films of Ingmar Bergman. He transforms selected scenes from these films into works of art, reflecting his own mental state, surroundings, and concerns. Özbakır can be seen as making 'translations' from the films. He consciously participates in the alteration or reproduction of 'reality' through his artwork. Addressing themes such as loneliness, introversion, lack of communication, lack of love, and feelings of division, the artist attempts to evoke human pains and experiences. The black-and-white faces in Özbakır's paintings await our touch. He makes them visible through his art. Within the simplicity of his expression, the artist explores new possibilities of narration, repeating what photography has copied forever from his own perspective.
Mustafa Özbakır completed his undergraduate education in the Painting Department of Mersin University Faculty of Fine Arts. His works have been featured in numerous group and solo exhibitions both domestically and internationally, and he continues his work freely.
