MELİKE
Melike began her artistic education at Izmir Anatolian Fine Arts High School, continuing at Marmara University Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Painting. Additionally, she worked on Performative Acting and Staging Method at Studio Players. She pursued her master's degree in the Art Department of Yildiz Technical University Faculty of Art and Design. She wrote a thesis titled "Choreographic Object in the Works of Robert Rauschenberg, William Forsythe, Jerôme Bel in the Context of Interdisciplinary Art".
Melike's artistic practice revolves around the exploration of forms through various disciplines such as painting, photography, video, and sound, rooted in body-centered gestures occurring in the present moment. By centering on bodily performative experience, the artist reveals the possibilities and limitations of the technique she employs in gestures that are as minimal, scarce, and incomplete as possible. This process brings forth different energy levels and the relationship the body establishes with emptiness, making the invisible visible. Movement, rhythm, and form transform into abstract depictions. Artistic behavior focused on experience creates a common language through various combinations that emphasize the technical elements inherent to the disciplines of painting, photography, video, and sound.
