HİLAL CAN

Hilal Can’s artistic practice unfolds as a reflection of her life journey and personal experiences. Her work is deeply nourished by the psychological processes she has encountered in the path of becoming an individual within the context of modern society. For Can, creation is often a therapeutic act—one where the answers she seeks sometimes emerge unexpectedly from the materials she engages with or the surfaces she confronts.

At the core of her practice lies a tension between shifting external realities—those she has experienced beyond the geographies she has inhabited—and an internal reality shaped by memory and continually transformed by the present. This conflict compels her to explore realities beyond the limits of perception, seeking new ways of understanding existence.

Since childhood, the creative process has been central to Can’s way of making sense of the world. Art became a vital tool for self-discovery, allowing her to navigate the complexities of life and identity. As her desire to understand her place in the universe grew alongside her search for self-understanding, the journey of “becoming” emerged as the most important step toward liberating her inner essence.

Through continuous production and expression, she remains engaged with her evolving and transforming psychological landscape. Her practice does not adhere to a single discipline or medium; instead, it flows organically, embracing any form that enables her to access, release, and materialize emotion. Whether through installation, drawing, or interdisciplinary forms, all of her works ultimately come together as fragments of a singular, interconnected reality.

For Hilal Can, art is not only a means of expression but a lifelong process—one that mirrors her inner transformations and reflects the ever-shifting nature of the world around her.
