GÜLAY ER

Gülay Er was born in 1962 in Kırklareli. She graduated from the Department of Painting and Graphic Arts at Marmara University's Atatürk Faculty of Education. She worked as an art director in various advertising agencies for a long time. Later, she continued her professional life as a painting teacher and continues her painting work at Atelier Altamira.

Gülay Er, starting from the two-way relationship between the abstract and the concrete, the real and the imaginary, personalizes the daily relationship we establish with the world of objects. Objects take on a new line, color, texture, and pattern with the associations created in Er's mind. As reality turns into the object of imagination, the concrete becomes abstract. The boundaries between reality and imagination, concrete and abstract, become blurred. As the connection between a landscape or figure and reality weakens, the connection with the imagination strengthens. However, the sense of reality is not completely lost; it undergoes transformation in Er's subjectivity. Viewers begin to bend reality from the place Er leaves it. The reality transformed by the imagination becomes not a concrete reality but a certain abstract reality.
