GİZEM KONYAR

Gizem Konyar's work is inspired by the intricacies of everyday life, elevating, demeaning, and destroying us, oscillating between the profound and the banal, and their impact on human existence. Within her artistic domain, she focuses on women; the burdens they carry throughout their lives, their obsessions with body image, the deformation of the female body, and its transformation into a new form. Her imagery-based works explore the complex emotions involved in questions of intimacy, identity, and human existence. These inquiries reference the body itself as a way to reclaim and celebrate the present, restructuring both the self and its cultural heritage, while also critiquing colonial legacies. Her expressive, organic forms, which emerge from a combination of different experiences and memories, lead to a vision of life that constantly vibrates with change. Through meticulous deformations using fabric, Gizem Konyar designs forms that resonate with the energy and intention of the heart rather than the processes of the mind. Each stitch represents a blending of memories and intuitive manifestations, exploring new and vibrant ways of existence, finding avenues of escape. All of her works are more closely associated with the energy and intention of the heart rather than the processes of the mind. Through manipulation applied to the reflected image of the clean surface on the front through stitching and embroidery techniques, her works invite the viewer to establish a relationship and connection with themselves, encouraging engagement through a cumulative effect.
