FURKAN AKHAN

Born in Istanbul in 1997, Furkan Akhan began his art education at Avni Akyol Fine Arts High School in 2011 and graduated from the Painting Department of Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in 2019. Akhan examines images drawn from various sources, including brochures and magazines. He wanders through public spaces, occasionally observing shop windows and stores, capturing objects, clothing and gestures. Among the images he encounters, he identifies elements that can serve as points of inquiry. Using various digital tools, he manipulates and reconstructs these images before transforming them into paintings and transferring them onto the surface. His works operate within the ambiguity between the reproducibility of the image and the singularity of painting. Through the silent language of images positioned within empty spaces, he expands his own narrative. The meaning that lies behind the frame and the image takes hold through the viewer’s gaze and is continuously reproduced. Meaning continues to evolve and recur: a presence that remains indistinct in one painting may occupy the centre of another.
