ERMAN GÜRCÜM

Erman Gürcüm was born in İzmir in 1992. He began his painting journey in 2011, gaining admission to the Painting Department at Doğuş University’s Faculty of Art and Design as the top-ranked candidate with a full scholarship. Throughout his studies, he trained under numerous accomplished artists, exploring and developing his own artistic vision. In 2015, he enrolled in the master’s program in Plastic Arts at Yeditepe University’s Institute of Social Sciences. Having completed his master’s degree, he continues his practice in his own studio.

Through a contemporary interpretation of the Vanitas painting tradition, Gürcüm questions worldly pleasures and the material world. His work employs a paradoxical visual language to critique pleasure, ostentation, and the desire to possess, while reminding viewers of the futility and fleeting nature of material wealth.
