BORAN GÜNDAY

Boran Günday (b.1999,Istanbul, Turkey) began his artistic journey through digital design and has focused on painting since 2022. Having developed his practice outside of formal institutions, Günday works with a concept-driven approach. He uses a childlike visual language to explore themes such as capitalism, authority, war, and systemic forms of oppression. By combining naïve forms with grotesque imagery, his work invites viewers to reflect not only on aesthetics but also on the underlying structures of the systems we live in. His paintings have been exhibited in various group shows in Istanbul.

Boran Günday employs childlike and naïve lines not merely as aesthetic choices but as a deliberate narrative device. His visual language is shaped by a universal form that seeks to evoke childhood memories and emotional registers shared across cultures. While his early artistic practice was rooted in formal concerns, Günday has gradually shifted towards storytelling—constructing visual narratives that critically engage with contemporary systems through the lens of childlike expression.
His work interrogates capitalism, warfare, authority, and structural violence, framing all of these within the overarching theme of “bullying.” For Günday, bullying is not a minor social issue but the most distilled and personal expression of the power dynamics that underpin systemic structures. As such, his compositions juxtapose innocence with grotesque elements, creating a tension between vulnerability and oppressive force. This contrast invites the viewer into not only an aesthetic but also an ethical and political confrontation.
