Şeyma Barut, born in 1987 in Istanbul, received her BA from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Painting Department. She graduated in 2017. Since her student days, her paintings have taken part in many group exhibitions, fairs and projects. She still lives in Istanbul and continues to work in her workshop.
For a long time, Barut was interested in the domination of society over sexes and their effects on individuals. With her images, she aims to make the audience question the matter by referring to the current situation, what should be or what is expected. In her current work, she also focuses on subject-object-space and individual-society relations.
