Cansu Sakız
Cansu Sakiz was born in 1987 in Bartin. She studied painting at then High School of Fine Arts before moving on to the 9 Eylul Universityn Faculty of Fine Art. She studied Turkish Tiling Art and Restoration at the Department of Traditional Turkish Arts for four years and graduated with degree of honours. She opened her first studio in Izmir after graduating in 2012, and with the establishment of Hata Yapim Atolyesi in 2014, she relocated her studio to Istanbul as a member of the collective. Following four years with the collective, she founded her own studio, Cansu Sakız Tile Art in 2018 and still continues her artwork there. Her training as a painter and knowledge of traditional art shaped her into a designer specializing in Turkish tile art and craft. The artist adds her own innovative interpretation to this timeless technique with the figurative expression she adds to the traditional version of tile art; combining the possibilities offered by the technique with her contemporary ideas, she aims to discover new horizons in her art. Her one-of-a-kind designs, combined with exceptional craftsmanship, are attracting art enthusiasts and collectors in art fairs and exhibitions.
