Baysan Yüksel

Born in 1984 in Bursa. After graduating from Istanbul Bilgi University Sociology Department in 2007, Baysan Yüksel completed her master’s degree in Marmara University Fine Arts Institute Painting Department in 2010. She has been participating in domestic and international exhibitions since 2006 and continues her work in her studio in Istanbul. She produces interdisciplinary works that question concepts such as routines, beliefs, traditions, and consumer culture. In this sense, she prefers to use dreams and universal symbols as signs, as they point to the collective subconscious. Preture, drawing, collage, three-dimensional objects, artist books, video, installation and writing are some of his preferred disciplines.

Her recent works consist of pentures and three-dimensional assemblages, reminiscent of sequences of dark tales, using the projections of individual and social confrontations intensely, using snake and octopus symbols. The symbol of the snake in these works emphasizing transformation, regeneration and rebirth while the flexible and multi-limb anatomy of the octopus represents the tension and anxiety created by variable and unknown emotions.
